This category provides information on Specialty Shows that are hosted by the STCA National Specialties and the Regional Scottish Terrier Clubs affiliated with the STCA. All of these events are AKC-sanctioned conformation shows that have received official approval from the STCA.
The annual Montgomery County Kennel Club (MCKC) dog show is certainly a special event in the mind of many Scottie fanciers. Sanctioned by the AKC as an All-Terrier (versus an All-Breed) Show, this event is attended by people from all over the United States as well as many countries around the world.
The STCA sponsors a series of events over the entire Montgomery County weekend that help make this an awesome weekend. The Montgomery weekend is the first weekend in October and is held in the greater Phillidelphia area. The official STCA Information Packet published each summer provides information on area hotels, maps to the various show sites and the latest schedule of events.
National Rotating Specialties
In approximately 1990, the STCA Board of Directors organized the Regional Scottish Terrier Clubs into four regional groups. The objective was to provide a mechanism for sharing the privilege of hosting a national specialty among all of the affiliated clubs. Since 1991, the annual National Rotating Specialty has been rotated among these four regional groups, with each club in the region having an equal opportunity to host the specialty.
The current list of regional groups and the STCs in each group is shown below.

Regional Club Specialty
Regional Clubs associated with the STCA may choose to host one or more Specialty Breed Shows each year. Each club has the responsibility for picking the judging panel. The Event Schedule has listings of these specialty events.
Please include the name of the show, date of the show, type of shows, judges, show superintendent and contact information, and site location. If you have additional information eg entry forms, premium listings, host hotels, or dinner/lunch reservations, please forward them by email. The posting will be added to the show calendar. If you have changes or additions, please forward them referencing the specific show date. One can send the information as soon as the AKC paperwork is filed.
NOTICE To Event Secretaries-- Regional Clubs are reminded that your Event Secretary needs to file a letter with the STCA Corresponding Secretary requesting approval for your show before applying to the AKC. The STCA approval letter and event application are due at the AKC twenty four (24) weeks prior to the proposed closing date.
How to post specialty event results
The STCA will post show results as soon as the information is received from the club's Event Secretary or appropriate representative. Send the information to the webmaster or used the Event Results Form. The STCA will make every effort to post information as quickly as possible; however, accuracy will be emphasized over speed. Official sources such as the Event Secretary or the AKC or the show superindentent will be our primary source.
Please include show and date(s), the judge's name, dog/bitch distribution, winners for each class ( 2-4 placements can be sent also) , best of winners, reserve best of winners, best of breed, best of opposite sex, select, awards of merit, specialty class winners/reserves, and any other awards. Please include the dogs complete AKC name and gender(D/B) for each placement. Please repeat the listing if the dog wins multiple classes. If desired, one can include owners or breeders name. However, this must be consistent ie for all winners or none.
