The Scottish Terrier Club of America (STCA) is proud of its 20 Regional Clubs from coast to coast! Each regional club serves as a local arm of the parent club and operates under the STCA parent club umbrella, and both have certain rights and responsibilities to each other.
Regional Clubs are formed and recognized as clubs by the STCA after following guidelines in the STCA SOP (Formation of Regional Club) and the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) guidelines, “Forming a Dog Club.” This includes Constitution and By-Laws, which are in compliance with the required AKC format. All Constitution and By-Laws are kept on file with the STCA Corresponding Secretary and informed when revisions are made.
The STCA is a member of the AKC. All AKC events must be sponsored by a club licensed by the AKC. Regional Clubs are licensed to hold AKC events through their connection with the Parent Club.
Each year STCA’s all Regional Clubs host a Specialty Show. Dates are approved by the STCA before submitting any permission request to the STCA or application to AKC is made. No Regional club shall hold a specialty show on the same weekend as another Regional Club unless both clubs have approved the date AND the date has been approved by the STCA Board of Directors.
The STCA is committed to nurturing and guiding the Regional Clubs that also guide and nurture local Scottish Terrier breeders and fanciers while sponsoring AKC approved events and educational opportunities.
Regional Clubs should be prepared to host a National Rotating Specialty Show every (10 years). It’s a fun way to distribute responsibility among all Regional Clubs.
Regional Clubs are the heart of breeder education, canine good health, and good sportsmanship. To that end, the STCA pledges to actively support the Regional Clubs and their endeavors. In turn, the Regional Clubs works with the STCA to fulfill its requests and directives in support of STCA endeavors.

National Rotating Specialties
In approximately 1990, the STCA Board of Directors organized the Regional Scottish Terrier Clubs into four regional groups. The objective was to provide a mechanism for sharing the privilege of hosting a national specialty among all the affiliated clubs. Since 1991, the annual National Rotating Specialty has been rotated among these four regional groups, with each club in the region having an equal opportunity to host the specialty. The current list of regional groups and the STCs in each group is shown below, as well as the location of the most recent host cities.
