The Scottish Terrier Club of America and Rescue
The Scottish Terrier Club of America (STCA) and a combination of several STCA’s Regional Clubs, independent rescue organizations, and individual Scottie lovers, share their love of the breed and are dedicated to help those in need.
Not all STCA Regional Clubs have rescue programs, but there are rescue programs or organizations that cover most of the United States. Each program/organization operates independently of the STCA, sets their own policies, carries their own insurance, and conduct their own fund-raising.
Scottish Terrier Rescue groups operate in the recovery, rehabilitation, evaluation and re-homing of purebred Scotties in permanent homes suited to the temperament of the specific Scottie. A rescue Scottish Terrier shall be considered any Scottish Terrier of unknown origin that has been lost, abandoned, or voluntarily surrendered by its owner, or, in the event that the breeder is known, that breeder declines to accept the responsibility for the Scottie.
The STCA offers a list of contacts on its website by state. In order to be listed, certain criteria must be met by each, specifically that they abide by the STCA Code of Ethics and the Rescue Code of Conduct.
The STCA does not endorse or accept responsibility for any of the contacts listed on the STCA Contacts Rescue Web Page and to be listed, each group signs this Code of Conduct and an agreement to hold the STCA harmless in any dispute.
Interested in Adoption? How does it work?
Please contact one of the rescue program/organizations listed on the website, preferably one near your home. You may be asked to fill out an Adoption Request Application. Each situation is evaluated and on-site visits are typically conducted by the organization. Please remember, not all rescued dogs, or dogs that need to be rehomed, are able to adapt easily to a new home. Each organization wants to ensure that each dog is placed in a home that best matches you and the dog. Most programs/organizations will ask for an adoption fee to help cover partial costs of medical bills, grooming, housing and supplies while the dog is in foster. The end goal is to ensure that the adoption is successful and that the dog has found their forever home!
