Scottish Terriers have been a large part of my life for over 35 years. Not long after I got my first Scottish Terrier, I became active in the local all-breed club here in Colorado. This was the start of many clubs, both all-breed and local (and not so local) Scottish Terrier clubs. Currently, I belong to the Rocky Mt. All Terrier Club, the Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club, the Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Denver and the STCA.
During my membership in the various clubs I have served in many capacities as Board Member and Officer. Most predominantly, I have served as a Secretary. Also, I have been on many committees of various types. Frequently, I steward for all breed and specialty shows. I have also assisted in Rescue on a local basis.
We got our first Scottish Terrier in 1982 and have not been with at least one ever since. Our two sons were raised to love and respect all animals, and both currently own dogs.
I have owned and operated my own grooming business since 1986, and been married since 1978 to my husband Lyn.
I am active in conformation, and I have finished many, many of our own dogs myself. My main concerns for our breed are current health issues that HAVE to be addressed with respect for the dogs and all breeders concerned. These issues should be confronted with dignity and diplomacy, care and caution, and not ignored or made light of.
Education about our breed should be foremost, and the parent club, along with the AKC should be working toward the future development of all dogs, and activities that coincide.
Most people wit tell you that I am a very straightforward person and that I take my time before making any decision. I do have a strong sense of ethics and morals, and I believe in my convictions and will stand up for what I feel is right. I do no have any problem attempting to work through conflict with others to come to mutual beneficial agreement. First and foremost, we must protect our breed, for now and for the future.
